This coming Saturday, the Block of the month will meet. Yes this is August already, which puts us at two-thirds of the way there. The bright colors make this years quilt so cheerful, and as I know that several of you are working this Quilt as You Go, I should mention that the newest issue of Quilter's Newsletter has a good article on three different ways to Quilt as You Go. If you have ever not quilted something because it was too big you need to check out the article. It is in issue #411, August/September 2009, and it is on newsstands now.
I want to remind you also that the store will be closed on August 7 & 8, and the art quilters meeting is moved to the 18th, just in case I am not back from Niagara Falls in time. Can't wait to see my daughter when she realizes just how huge the falls are. Hand stitchers will still be on the first Tuesday, the 4th, and there is a Scrap Therapy Cutting session on the 6th that is nearly full( call asap if you want to register for it).
Puff Quilting ( or biscuit quilts ) is a technique where two squares of fabric are sewn together with pleats in the larger one. Usually the space between the squares is stuffed and the units whipped together. The same company who re-popularized the Yo Yo has designed a set of clips that make the process easy to to do even on your machine. The clips allow for some really cool variations of the classic idea. I have been playing and I think you will like the results. The clip sets come with four clips, templates and a stuffing tool that also makes a great tube turner. Whats more, we have a Scrap Therapy pattern for two pillows and a pin cushion that uses them. The unstuffed and manipulated pleats are surprisingly elegant. The clip sets sell for $10.95, and this weekend they are 20% off. See you soon.
