Hand Stitchers

The Only Rule is
NO MACHINES IN CLASS
You will love the friendly atmosphere,  easy transport and meditative pace of hand stitching.   Jean made that stunning star in our club!  We meet on the second Tuesday of each month from 10-12,  $10.00 per meeting.  All skill levels are welcome.  You may bring your own project or work with the group on the current project.

A basic hand sewing kit includes pins, hand sewing needles, thread snips, thread in colors that work for the project,  fabric marker that shows on your fabrics, and  larger fabric scissors.    You should always bring this to the club meetings.  Additional items will be announced as the project merits.
Since the winter meetings have frequently been interrupted by weather, we have opted to make January and February meetings finishing days.    Bring any project we have done,  or any other handwork that needs to be finished to work on.   If it requires any unusual materials or techniques, let me know ahead of time so I am sure to have the resources you need.     In March ( hopefully with the Spring weather,) we will begin a Rhapsody project.

For those of you who still want to make the pincushion from December,  I am leaving these directions up for a while.
In December, we will make some fabric poinsettias.   For one flower, you will need 6 squares of poinsettia colored fabric,  all the same size,   can  be anywhere from 3 inches for a small blossom, to about 6 inches for a larger one,   and 3-5 green squares the same size for leaves.   You will want some hand sewing thread that matches your fabric,  and Thread Heaven or beeswax to strengthen the thread is helpful.   Buttons or beads for the center are also a nice addition.    If you have a Kansashi Flower maker you can bring it but it is not required.

If you wish to make your flowers sit atop a pincushion,   You will need some additional things.

Two matching pieces of felt cut at 2 1/2,  x  7 1/4 inches.
a 6 x 8 piece for the top and bottom of the pincushion.
Embroidery floss that coordinates.
A good amount of stuffing
small bag of aquarium gravel or other weights for the bottom of the pincushion.
any additional embellishments you want to use.
I will have some tracers for the oval.

This pincushion pattern is based on the idea found in American Patchwork and Quilting,  Feb 2007, issue 84.   Article titled Stuck on You.   Better Homes and Gardens may have back issues available.
