The Crazy Quilt Show is up and it is stunning!!! It will be up through May 30. Please come see all the wonderful work. Those of you in the Art Quilt Group and taking the Kaleidoscope workshop will be able to see the show after class. Both of those are this week. If you need information on either please contact us.
I wanted to talk to you all about showing your work. I am so proud of all our crazy quilters, for some it is the first time showing something in a public exhibition. The local guild shows and county fair are also great places to get used to the showing process. From filling out forms and photographing, it can be a tedious process. So why do it?? There are lots of reasons. Some like the competition, and work very hard to win ribbons, which is all well and good. Others are working to build a reputation for a specific style and look for exposure by showing. But in my opinion, the best reason to enter a show is for the judges comments. A good judge will tell you both what is great about your piece and present you with a bit of constructive criticism. An impartial opinion that is well informed can be very helpful in your creative journey. It does sometimes require thick skin, but if you hear the same bit of advice a few times you can be sure it is something that needs to be addressed. Let us be honest, most of us know where our strengths are, it can be harder to face our weaknesses. When you are ready, showing your work can be very rewarding and educational. If you have never done it, I highly encourage you to enter something somewhere.
This weekend, the special is all about Paula Nadelstern. Her new book is ten percent off. This is the publication that is serving as the catalog for her one person show and I know you don't want to pay museum prices. I also have a few sets of round blank note cards with her amazing designs that will be ten percent off as well. Don't miss this, almost all of her previous books have gone out of print and some sell on e-bay for over a hundred dollars. See you soon.
