This past weekend I was happy to meet and speak with Sharon Schamber. She is a most amazing craftsperson. When allowed to get close to her work it became quite obvious what set her beautiful designs apart from the others. Not only are her original designs truly beautiful and wonderfully colored, but they embodied some of the very best craftsmanship that I have ever seen in reality. You can see some very good detail shots on her website if you want to see what I mean. So while I often speak of inspiration and needing to work with really good design and color principles, I must remind each of us to constantly be vigilant about our craftsmanship. (Myself included) Taking a class is a great way to upgrade skills. We have several coming this summer that will help you do just that. Until it is all finalized, I can't say exactly the projects, but we will help you improve hand applique, fusible techniques, organization, and machine quilting to name a few things. If you are interested, I took lots of pictures at the NSQG show, I'll be glad to share in person, but won't post to the web without permission from the individual quilters. My congratulations go out to all the entrants and especially the winners of ribbons, several of whom are familiar names here at the Village Fabric Shoppe.
This Tuesday is handstitchers, we are continuing the Mariners Compass, Next Tuesday, the Art Club will be coiling mats or vessels. An e-mail will be sent to the regular members with a supply list. If you aren't a regular member and want the supply list contact us. The more the merrier. This weekend is a busy one, Saturday is both Crazy Quilt Club and the Rose Ball, and even Apple Blossom Festival. Town should be hopping. If you can, car pool to the Shoppe for class as parking sometimes gets hard to find for that event. Crazy Quilters should remember to bring finished projects to submit for our show which will open on Tuesday the 12th.
Since Mother's Day is also this Sunday - don't forget to tell Mom you Love her - we have a special that brings together the generations. 25% off shaped cookie cutters. Many a young girl learned to both bake and sew by watching and helping Mom or Grandma their tasks. I hope that these cute cookie cutters in the shape of scissors, a thread spool, sewing machine, and thimble will bring that bond to mind. May you and all the matriarchs and sisters enjoy!!!
One last thing to mention is that the Paula Nadelstern exhibit at the Museum of American Folk Art is now open. It is there until Septermber 18, and you can get more information at www.PaulaNadelstern.com or www.americanfolkartmuseum.com You have all summer, there is no excuse to miss this important show. When I have dates that I will be attending I wil let you all know and perhaps we can make it an event. Happy Quilting!!
