I am glad for batteries. I actually have no power right now and this laptop is running on its battery. Typing in the dark is interesting, and I guess I learned more than I thought in that keyboarding class in High School - yes remember when the type writer was being replaced with word processors and they decided that it was keyboarding, not typing? I actually wrote my masters thesis on a word processor. I am glad I have a hard copy of it because the technology to get it off of the floppy disk is not something I have any longer. It is amazing how we have become so dependant on technology, and its biggest requirement, power. This is the second time we have lost power today. It wasn't a big deal while it was daylight and for a few hours, but now that it is dark, if it wasn't for batteries I'd have nothing left to do but go to bed. (Actually that still sounds pretty good, but my neighbors generator is so loud I doubt I could sleep anyway. )
I need to remind you that this Friday is Paper Pieced Stars. We need two more people to sign up or we will have to postpone it. So many of you have this stunning book, come for class and use it. You can refer to the individual block lists in the book for materials and basic sewing tools needed. You can choose any of the 50 state stars you wish, but please have the needed foundations printed before class. We don't yet have the facilities to do that for you in the shoppe. Paper Piecing is a wonderfully accurate method that stabilizes as you piece, making tiny skinny points much easier to accomplish. There are lots of little tricks and techniques to make it super. Come try it if you haven't, and if it's been a bit, come have a refresher. To keep you inspired to use paper piecing, our paper piecing patterns are 20% off for this weeks special.
We have some great projects comeing up this Spring, a Mommy and Me Doll quilt, Paula Nadelstern Kaleidoscope, and two that are no sew!! Fat Quarter Flowers, and the Rose Ball. The Rose Ball is a wonderfully scented ornament of dried Rosebuds, a great gift for any of the special ladies in your life. I need to order the flowers, so I will take registration only until the 18th of April for the Rose Ball. Please let me know if you will make more than one of these dainty ornaments so I am sure to have enough rose buds to go around.
Now back to the issue of power, it's in your hands at the Village Fabric Shoppe. We are now condsidering workshops to run over the summer and I am appealing to you to let us know what it is you want to see here. Among our current considerations are the new Scrap Therapy patterns I spoke of last week, and some expanded "Therapy Sessions", William Morris in Applique, One Line at a Time - machine quilting, Ricky Timms Rhaphsody, and Feathered Friends - paper pieced birds. Please let us know if any or all of these are of interest to you. We need you to keep coming to workshops and gaining inspiration from what you find at the Village Fabric Shoppe. If you have anything else that you are wanting to try now is the time to let us know. You have the power to put just what you want on our summer schedule, you just have to let us know what it is you want. My mind reading powers are seriously lacking, so if you don't tell me what you would like, I won't know. Remember, it's your shoppe too.
Lastly, we are closed Tuesday, March 31. I apologise for any troubles this may cause. See you on the First of April.
