As a remider, and so you can easily print it for your calendar, I have decided to post the monthly schedule in it's entirety at the beginning of each month. That way I can spend more of my blogging time keeping you all up to date with events beyond just our wonderful workshops. and spend less time each week posting duplicate information.
Currently, Roberta Horton is in our region, with lectures at both area guilds and several workshops going on this week. She originally made her name in the quilt world as a scrap quilter, and so her work is near to my heart. You have seen her and her sister, Mary Mashuta on Simply Quilts. If anyone needs to view theses episodes let me know. Also coming this weekend are two area favorite events, the Wiltwyck Quilt Show, and the Sheep and Wool festival at the Fairgrounds. Both events have websites you can find easily using Google, or I have postcards and flyers at the shoppe. Many of the fabrics for the Wiltwyck raffle quilt were purchased at the shoppe and I must not urge you to buy any more raffle tickets, So I can win this great quilt. (only kiddding! )
I am working hard this week to get the Thangles sample done, This Block of the month is wonderful bright but soft colors. The basic block is minty green on Kona White. This gives you great flexibility for the block surround colors and borders. Our sample at the shopppe is in the Pink Color Way, but you have the option of simply purchasing the finishing directions and choosing your own as well. Several of you had made arrangements like this last time and it worked out well for those with a more independent streak in their quilting blood. ( or a decor in their home that calls for different colors )
For Creativity Central this week, I am urging you to consider the backs of your quilts. When a quilt is on a bed, the sleeper actually sees the back a bit more than the front. I carry extra wide backs that make it economical and easy to use good fabrics there. If that doesn't excite you, you can easily use a very simple pattern like Yellow Brick Road or Turning Twenty, or even just large squares of your left overs, and have two for the price of one!! A quilt is only as durable as the materials it is made of, and a wonderful top with low grade fabric on the back is more likely to wear and disintegrate in your own lifetime. If you have heirloom pieces, or art for your walls, it should last a hundred years. Be sure you will leave a lasting legacy.
The Special fo rthis Saturday is 20% off Calendars.
Here is the list of upcoming workshops. If you have questions call us. (845) 758-8541
