There's so much to tell I barely know where to begin, and it's all so inspiring. Roberta Horton had lots to say that I will be addressing in future installments of Creativity Central, and the Wiltwyck Quilters Guild Show had a very good quality all around. I want to congratulate all who entered, and especially those whose work earned them ribbons. ( I was excited to see several of the ribbon winners that had very direct connections to the shoppe )
If you would like to partake in classes or workshops here (and maybe get your skills to ribbon winning levels as some of our customers have ) you will love this Saturdays Special. With any paid registration for a class or workshop, you can take 15% off supplies for that workshop. This includes the specialty rulers for Scrap Therapy, patterns, and of course fabrics. I have decided to do this for you all as so many of you had other considerations on your time during Open House. Please do take advantage of this one day offer. You can scroll down for a complete listing of this months classes or go to our web page and see the events through January. http://www.villagefabricshoppe.com/
I will be packing the box to send in the Quilts of Valor this week so if you have anything to add, please get it to me a s a p.
Over the last week, one design issue has surfaced several times and I would like to address it here in Creativity Central. As many of you are sending your quilts out to be done by someone else, the long arm business is growing rapidly. I urge you very strongly to see actual quilts done by your proposed quilter before you put your precious quilt in her hands. Poorly done quilting can do great damage to a quilt. Well done quilting can add greatly to the value of the piece. Be sure you are confident in your quilter before you mail away a quilt. Also important is to be clear about what you want to happen with the quilting. While it is less expensive than a custom design, all over designs are not always a good answer. You are creating an heirloom that should outlast you, the extra cost for custom is often worth it. The scale and density needs to compliment the design of the top, even in an all over design. The bottom line is that the quilting should enhance the quilt, and not detract from it. Be open to discussing batting and thread choices, your quilter will have insights, but she should listen to your requests. You are entering a collaboration between you and your quilter, approach it as such and you can enjoy a great result and many wonderful quilts. In the end, if you can't do it yourself, get someone who will do it like you would if you could.
