Happy Halloween!!

This Friday is one of my personal favorite holidays. Halloween is a time for letting out the inner child, and trying on a different personality for a while. A few good natured scares get your heart pumping and usually ends with a hearty laugh. And then there is the Candy Corn....

Anyway I do have a few bits of business, First, The Basket Medallion start date has been moved to Nov 5, 6:30-9:30. Hopefully some more of you will be able to sign up. We have Thangles packs for the half square Triangles. The project uses three sizes, but not many of each, so we have made sampler packs just for this project. The pattern has not been published, Diane did this one on her own, so if you like this project, taking the workshop is the only way to get it.

I also want to clarify the dates for some of the Scrap Therapy workshops. The November Cutting workshop is Wednesday November 5, 10-1. It has been miss-typed in some notices. Also the Once Apon a Scrap quilt project is Thursday November 20, from 10-1. This is a great quick project that you will have fun making. I have been really enjoying these projects, and there well be more wonderful projects coming soon. Once you catch the fabric bug, scrap quilts become almost a necessity so that you can enjoy all your precious bits of fabric -- and make room to get more.

The handstitchers will be meeting this coming Tuesday, and starting a new project, a scissor fob that conveniently holds a thimble. If you have been attending you will be receiving an e-mail from me with the supply list. If you are interested and have not attended before, this is a great introduction and I would be happy to send you the supply list. Also, those of you who do redwork will be glad to know that the annual free project sheet ornament will be out on the first. This years is an oval with a smiling snowman in a top hat. You will smile too when you see him. Kits will be available.

As I told you, I really like Halloween. Costumes and Masks allow you to try on any persona you
want to, in a safe way. Traditional cultures used masks and special costumes to call on the spirit of the animal, to bring its power to play on society in some way. Masks are ancient parts of our humanity. For Creativity Central this week I want you think on what special strengths you would like to call into your life, and sketch out a mask that would do this for you. Perhaps an owl for wisdom, a spider for skills with threads and needlework, a cat for Independence, or maybe bits of several creatures -- let your imagination soar. Have fun with it.

On the subject of masks and costumes, this weekend, if you wear one to the shoppe, Friday or Saturday, I have a special no calorie treat for you as the Saturday Special. Your special Halloween garb need not be elaborate, just something fun in the "spirit" -- maybe you made your mask out of a paper plate, or have the best sweatshirt with a trick or treat message. Happy Haunting!!
