I hope you all enjoyed your holiday weekend. I spent a good part of mine painting here at the shoppe. It hadn't been done in a long time and it is time to update the interior. I will be working my way around the shoppe one section at a time. The change in the color of the background can make a huge difference. This also works when you want to update a traditional quilt block. So many quilters automatically choose white or cream for the background. Next time why not try a color, a lovely light tone on tone or batik as the ground can make for a more exciting combination. Many stunning contemporary quilts have started with a traditional block made using updated color schemes. (for utility quilts, a colored ground will show less wear than white too!)
We also have some new book arrivals from C & T that are 10 % off as our Saturday Special this week. Among them are, Radiant Nine Patch, Patrick Lose Christmas, Quilts from the Heart, Hand painting your own fabric with Rayna Gilman, Color your World with Princess Mirah Batiks, and one of my new favorites, Making History, quilts and fabric from 1890-1970, by Barbara Brackman. Not only is this book a valuable resource with lots of historical information and photos, but the 9 projects are stunning. I am having a hard time deciding which sample I want to make first.
We have lots going on in our classroom too, Blockbusters is making and using rubber stamps tonight at 7, The Block of the Month will meet this Saturday, and the first kit class, the Pillowcase, runs on the 15th, 11-1. Also, if you have signed up for the Grandmothers Garden workshop on the 16th, please be sure to purchase your Sand Dune fabric far enough ahead to wash and dry it before class. Please check our website or stop by the shoppe for more details on any workshop you are interested in. See you all soon.
