Thimbleberries Holiday weekend sale.

I had a very strange past few days. On Saturday night, my dog ate a pack of gum. You might wonder why the big deal, but a guest who was visiting clued us in. There is an artificial sweetener called Xilitol in lots of candy and gum that is toxic to pets. When we were unsuccessful at inducing vomiting we had to bring the dog to emergency vet care and we very nearly lost him. Luckily the clinic managed to get it out of his stomach before much had been digested and he is doing ok. I know that many of you have critters that you love and want you to be aware of this danger.

I also want you to know about pending legislation called the orphan works bill. It basically gives anyone the right to copy your quilts as long as they have made a "Reasonable Search" Reasonable search is not defined. If you discover it you may only be reimbursed for legal fees to protect your copyright. This means that, if this bill passes, someone sees your quilt, takes a photo, and six months later, can't find you to ask permission. They still love your quilt, make one just like it, put the image on t shirts, mugs and tote bags. They make a great profit. You find out about it and take them to court. All you will legally be able to collect is the fees for registering your copyright. (when you really deserve a big percent of the profits past and future) If you want more information and a form letter protesting it to send to our senators and congress please let me know. This kind of legislation could prevent many of your favorite designers from continuing to produce new patterns. They make their living from thier designs and this potential change in law could put many of them out of work.
