I am happy to announce our participation in the Quilts of Valor program. It's about people not politics. The program aims to give a quilt to every soldier returning to the U.S. with war wounds. C & T publishing and Thangles are two of the corporate sponsors, and you can get lots of information at the Quilts of Valor website, www.qovf.org We at VFS, will have several open sewing days at the shoppe, and Thangles has provided a pattern that is free to use as long as you make a contribution to the Quilts of Valor program. You can come in and sew, donate patriotic fabrics, make a quilt or a top or drop off blocks. Copies will be given out at the open sewing events. The block is simple, attractive and the setting makes it really sparkle. More details will be available as we officially kick off the program at Open House on June 14th.
This Saturday, in response to rising gas costs, we will have a gas price protest sale. If you come to shop on Saturday and car pool, bike, walk, or use public transport to get here I will take 10% off your total bill. We can find other ways to get around without being so dependant on gas, and We want to reward your efforts in that direction. Sewing quilts was and is a great way to express your color and design sense, and help to keep your family warm all winter. Quilts are warm to sleep under, can warm up floors and walls by adding insulation and beauty, and can make cozy garments too. If you want to lower your fuel bills this winter, start making quilts this summer! We can help.
Upcoming classes include the second session of Magic Vine on June second, Handstitchers on Tuesday the Third(see below for info.) , and the Block of the Month on June seventh. In addition you will want to mark your calendars for Open House on June 14th, and the start of our summer hours thereafter, through Labor Day. These will be 11-5 Tues-Friday and 10-5 on Saturdays.
Handstitchers will begin the last block the Flower basket. Have the needle lace done and mounted. I will show you how to create the spiral spokes and go over some of the flower basics as review. You will want to bring some greens and it would be a good idea to use colors you have as leftovers from other blocks. It will help to hold the blocks together visually, and allow you to use up some of the leftovers. Refer to the book for more specific color suggestions. See you all soon.
