Goals, not Resolutions

On an Internet list I belong to there was a recent discussion on Resolutions for the New Year. That group decided that goals are more realistic than resolutions and if you are very specific you are more likely to achieve them. So I have been thinking about goals. I have set two for myself over the next year, one is to exercise at least twice a week, the other is to resume doing journal quilts once a month. If you are not familiar with journal quilts, they are small quilts, often 8 1/2" x 11" that you complete on a regular schedule. The purpose of them is to experiment and explore your own themes in quilted form. Like keeping a written journal, or a sketchbook, this project can help you to expand and improve your quilting skills. For my purposes, I will not make any that are larger than 18 x 24", and I will be exploring the use of leftover fabrics. (strips scraps and recycled bits) If this project intrigues you feel free to join me. I will keep you all posted on my progress, by posting the photos here on the blog, and by keeping the finished ones at the shoppe for your viewing pleasure. If you want to see more about journal quilts see "Creative Quilting, the Journal Quilt Project" I have a copy at the Shoppe, or visit the Quiltart website at Quiltart.com

This is a busy week, Handstitchers begins the window box project on Tuesday, The lace winged beaded dragonfly is on Thursday, at 10 am. Bloomin' Steps, a Scrap Therapy quilt is on Friday, also 10 am. While I am filling you in, Blockbusters, our Art Quilt Group will begin daytime hours at 10 am, Next Tuesday. That group will explore embellishment and three dimensional construction making a zippered case shaped like an eggplant. The photo is a lightly embellished version. If you would like a supply list for any of these workshops please come in or e-mail us. On Wednesday, I will be at the Embroiderer's guild meeting, giving a presentation on the history of Art Quilts. My talk will begin at 12:oo noon, and I believe there is a $5.00 non member fee.

If the weather is bad, daytime workshops follow Red Hook Central Schools. If they are delayed or Cancelled the daytime workshop is postponed. For evening workshops, it is up to the discretion of the instructor since weather often changes as the day goes on. Changes will be posted on the blog, and we will make every effort to reach those registered by telephone. As soon as information is available.

The special for this weekend (Friday and Saturday) is on Yo Yo makers, all sizes and shapes in stock are 25% off. These gadgets are fun, easy and let you put a little pizazz on anything. Once you start making them it will be hard to stop. See you all soon.
