As I look forward to a Chinese New Years Dinner this evening, I am thinking about traditions. When I met my husband all the traditions of the Chinese New Year feast seemed strange. I was brought up however, to respect and be polite so I tasted everything that was put in front of me. I liked most of it and learned quickly to ask what it was after I tasted. Now, decades later, I eagerly look forward to some of the more unusual (to my upbringing) delicacies. So what does this have to do with quilting? Well, traditions can change, for example, there was a time when a prize-winning quilt had to be hand quilted. That is not the current state, and those who actually hand quilt are getting more and more rare. ( we have a workshop in February if you want to try your "hand" at it ) I guess what I am getting at is that if a class or technique looks interesting you should try it even if it is outside of your tradition. You may or may not like it, but I can guarantee that your quilting life will be enriched by the experience.
We have lots of fun things on the new schedule, which should be up on the website in the next few days, and the hard copy is at the printer right now. The samples are coming in at the shoppe in preparation for registration week. Next week, Feb 3-7 we are running a registration special, if you pay your registration between Feb 3 and Feb 7, you may take 15% off all class supplies. Yes, it includes patterns, books, threads, new machine needles, whatever you need for class. The only exception is the Thangles program, but at only a dollar a block, that shouldn't cause too much trouble. You will also want to check out the gallery space that week to cast your vote for your favorite piece submitted by our customers for "What I Did Last Year" The winner gets a prize!! If you have something for me to hang please bring it in by Friday. If you don't have something in the show, you can't get the prize. It should be a great show, you have all done great things and I want to thank all of you for your continued patronage.
This weekend, there is a clearance special on, if you spend $15.00 on fabric you may choose one of our clearance patterns for FREE, If you spend $25.00 on fabric you may take one of our clearance books for FREE. Yes thats right, Free. There are some good things there, and some newly clearanced ones too. Free is good. See you then.
