fair week

The Dutchess County Fair is this week. The quilts there are lovely, and I want to remind you that you should not touch any of the displays. When you have been eating fried dough and spending time in the livestock barns, it is just not a good idea. Please respect the amount of work the quilters have done and are willing to share. As we did last year, we will hang any fair entry quilts that are available after the fair at the Shoppe so you may get a better look. If you have one or more that you would let us hang simply let me know this week and bring it by on Tuesday, the 26th. I would also remind you that winners are generally published in the Poughkeepsie Journal, as well as being posted at the fair.

At the shoppe, we have a special this Saturday especially for the Crazy Quilters who meet this Saturday. J.Marsha Michler has out a beautiful new book, called Crazy Quilting, the complete guide, and it is 15% off on Saturday. It has a hidden spiral binding that lays flat if you need to follow one of the hundred or so stitch diagrams. These are arranged by structure of the stitch, so that you may more easily learn new variations. My personal favorite section in on ways to piece the fabric foundations. Many books on the subject cover one or two, here you have ten. Don't miss this book sale. Even Art quilters will find useful information and ideas here.

On August 28 we have a landscape class, at 6:30. There are three versions you may choose from. They are fun, quick, and if you are so inclined, ripe for embellishment. Call to reserve your spot in class. It would even make a good base for the new handstitchers project, French Knot Pictures. The French Knot gives a wonderful texture and is easy to do. If you want to join the club, this is a great project to step in with. That meeting is on Sept 2. 10-12. Email me and I will send you a supply list.
Lastly, two reminders, we will return to winter hours on Sept 2nd, and there is a flyer with a coupon at the First Dutchess Quilters booth at the fair, don't forget to get yours. Have fun at the Fair!!
