Crazy Quilters

It’s not your grandmother’s (or great-grandmother’s!) crazy quilting. Each month we’ll explore a variety of the embellishment techniques so popular in quilting today like stitchery, photo transfer, beading, etc. while creating heirloom quality items sure to become treasured family keepsakes. The atmosphere is informal and there is no prior experience is necessary. Usually the fourth Saturday of the month, 10 - 1. Cost $18.

If you can't make it on Saturdays but want to try Crazy Quilting,  check the workshops page for dates on the Crazy Quilt Basics workshop coming soon.

Hi ladies,

A very Happy New Year to all of you! I’m looking forward to getting back to stitching and it’s nice to have a starting point for supply selection. I have my holiday tea party exchange gift sitting right next to me as I plan our project. I’m working on a block but I have a completed stocking that I will bring for inspiration. Our meeting will be Saturday January 28th from 10 – 1. We’re starting early so you’ll have it ready for Christmas 2012! We always talk about doing that but never do so here’s your chance. And remember you can even do themed stockings for all of your family members or for someone special. Let me begin by reminding you that at our October session we chose a holiday theme centered on a Christmas stocking or a block that can be turned into a wall hanging or pillow, say a 12” block with 2” borders – finishing at 16”. But as always – please feel free to work on whatever you choose. We’ll begin by piecing our item using a combination of stitch and flip plus applique. Piecing is a somewhat tricky but important part of the crazy quilt process and it’s a good idea to learn a few tricks. So bring your foundation (1/2  a yard of muslin or osnaburg) plus a stack of coordinating fabrics. Don’t forget solids, textures and neutrals like black, tan, cream, etc. In addition bring the following: Hand sewing supplies (scissors, st. pins, small ruler, etc.)Sharpie fine point penAny laces or trims that you might want to include in your piecingYou might want to bring a small collection of embellishments in a gallon zip lock bag (threads, beads, charms, silk ribbon) that you are planning to use so that we can plan your palette and leave any space necessary to fit things. We have a few new people interested in our group so please make sure you let me know if you are attending. If we ever need more space, I’ll do a second session from 1:30 – 4:30 so no one is left out. Looking forward to seeing all of you!
