Last Summer Activities

Hard to believe, the fair is over, the Olympics are over, and the summer is nearly over. One more week till school buses and lunchboxes. Personally, I love this time of year. Maybe it's the teacher in me, but I really like shopping for school supplies. There is a bit of a chill in the night air, and my thoughts naturally turn to new projects. If you, like me would like to try out something new we can help. The Birches landscape quilt class is this Thursday night. A small project that uses gentle curved piecing techniques to create a landscape that feels remarkably like the geography of this area. It uses one of several methods of creating landscape quilts, if you would like to try out some of the others, this Saturdays special is 20% off of selected landscape and pictorial quilt patterns. From piecing curves to fusing and applique. There is a method for everyone who wants to step into this exciting form of quilting.

We have added a day session to the Strip Pieced Jacket workshop. It will be September 17 & October 1, from 10-1. This terriffic jacket is built on a sweatshirt, so you need to get one, which should be easier now that the fall clothing is out. It needs to have set in sleeves, in a color that matches your fabrics, and should be larger than you will normally wear. As you sew, there is considerable shrinkage. Refer to the pattern for more details. Both sessions are filling fast register now to make sure you have a spot.

I want to congratulate all of you who entered quilts and needlework at the fair. The entries were all great, I don't envy the judges who have to decide which get ribbons. If it were up to me, you would all have them. Last year, following the fair we hung some of the quilts at the shoppe, in our gallery and it was so popular we have decided to repeat. Any quilt or needlework that was shown at the fair is welcome, feel free to leave your ribbons on them too. Please have them to us by Friday, the 29th of August. You may pick them up again after our open sewing day on September 11. Please leave your name label from the fair on the back.

If you need supply lists for either the hand stitchers club project, French Knot Pictures, or the Block of the month hand applique please e-mail and I will send it to you. Also let us know if there is something you would love to work on this winter, we are getting the next schedule together and love to get your input. villagefabricshoppe@gmail.com I look foward to a wonderful fall season.
