Must See Quilt Show

If you can get anywhere near the Maopac Public Library, go see the Art Quilt Show that is hanging there through April 3. It is called Fiber + Thread = Art. These small works are mounted on canvas and beautifully displayed on the third floor. I was pleased to attend the opening reception this past Sunday. I photographed every piece (I think ) I had to be patient and wait till there was space to step back with a clear view, the opening was very well attended. I wont be putting the photos up due to copyright issues, but I would be happy to show you in person. Come in to the shoppe and ask. Or better yet, come to our Art Quilt Club meeting Tuesday from 10-12.

This month in our Art Group, we will try out reverse applique. You need to bring a background fabric, which will be the TOP layer, and fabric that will be the motif, on the bottom layer. The bottom fabric can be highly pieced. My sample uses a chunk of string pieced fabrics. You can do it by hand or machine, so if you want to try it, you need to bring the proper sewing equipment for your chosen sewing method. Also bring a fabric marker and some pins, and as usual any works in progress and your current journal quilt.

Thursday, the Basket Medallion Quilt will meet for the first of two meetings. We will divide the packs of Thangles and make a Class pack for you. Friday, Whats up Dot place mats workshop will meet. Please read your supply list carefully and complete the pre-class homework before you get to the shoppe so we can get going quickly. There are a few tricks to the extra wide binding that I hope to get time to work on with you.

Lastly, I want to tell you about the next few weekends. March 21 is National Quilting Day, and that weekend you can take 20% off your fabric purchases if you wear a quilted garment, carry a quilted tote, or show us your guild membership card. If none of these options work, we are going to help you. You can join a Guild quickly, or come in THIS weekend. If you spend $25.00 on anything in the store on the 13 or 14th, you can choose one of a selection of wearable and accessory patterns for one dollar. Many of these are quick and easy patterns with little fitting needed. A tote or vest can even be cut out of that quilt top you know you wont ever finish. See you soon!!
