This quilt is by Karen Eckmier. ( she is the designer of the "Accidental Landscape" series of patterns and the founder of Quilted Lizard ). It is called "Diana's Happy Village" It is about 16 inches square. This is based on the pieces in her book, which will debut at Spring Market. She and her husband visited the shoppe last fall and we have corresponded a few times since. When I ordered a few advance copies of the book they came with the offer to make a quilt using fabrics from the store. I happily sent her a care package and got this treasure back a week later. Quilters are the best people!!! Although my husband does a wonderful job of photographing, the piece is most amazing in person. I have it hanging right over the cutting counter so you can see it well. I do have copies of the book, and kits of the fabrics. We will be running a workshop over the summer. Dates will be announced as soon as we know them ourselves. I know you will all have fun with this wonderful and easy technique.
I also want to mention that the hand stitcher's club will be beginning a new project on the first of May. A charm quilt is a quilt in which all the patches are the same shape, and no fabric is repeated. There are about a dozen shapes that I know of that work , from simple squares to curvy shapes like the classic apple core, or Grandmother's Flower Garden from hexagons. We will run it as a fabric exchange, so finding the large number of fabrics needed will be fun too. This is a great chance to have some fun, socialize, maybe learn a new stitching technique, and possiblly clean out your stash by sharing it with others, who share with you too. You just can't lose with this one!!! See you all soon.
