This Saturday the special is on Crazy Quilt starter kits. Our Exclusive kits include two fat quarters of quilting fabrics, embroidery floss, silk ribbon, a selection of fancy fabrics, buttons, lace and a pre-printed foundation for the crazy block, as well as basic directions. One of the hardest parts of getting started with crazy quilting is collecting coordinating materials and we have done that for you. Normally selling for $22.50, Take five dollars off this Saturday.
If the hand work involved traditional crazy quilts is stopping you, then sign up for Crazy Shortcut Quilts. This quilt as you go technique lets you create crazy quilt style entirely on your sewing machine. The diamond pattern on our sample is a great place to begin with this versatile and fun technique. The workshop project gives you enough to finish into a table runner and four matching place mats, or a crib size quilt. If you choose to make something larger there are instructions in the book for up to a queen size,--- and it is all done with fat quarters!!!
If you need a place to keep all your crazy quilt supplies, then take the peach basket workshop. It makes the most useful sewing basket with customizable interior pockets. Ginny will take you through it on the 23rd, from 10-3. You have a lunch break in the middle, so you can try out one of Red Hook's eateries, or bring a bag lunch. There is a little bit of prep work so sign up early enough to get it done. We have the baskets that form the base available at the shoppe.
Finally, I want to tell you about a local youth from Rhinebeck. This brave 9 year old is undergoing chemotherapy treatments in his spine, for Fourth stage non-hodgkins lymphoma. Sean Murphy and his family need to know they have the support of their community, and one of our regular customers suggested that we make him a quilt. Sean loves his puppy and all kinds of dogs, and when his health allows, loves to play hockey. If you could find it in your heart and stash to make him a simple nine patch, you may drop it off at the shoppe. To keep things easy and get as many blocks as possible, we are collecting 6" finished, (6 1/2" raw edge to raw edge) nine patch units. Simply cut nine 2 1/2 inch squares from dog, hockey and little boy colored fabrics, and sew them together with a quarter inch seam. Depending on how many we get, we will set them using a hockey fabric donated by the Shoppe. Please make an effort to get the blocks to us by May 15 th. If you want more information on Sean and his family, you can check their daily journal entries at carepages.com . See you all soon.
